Surrey rankings

Surrey outcodes with the most energy-efficient housing stock

Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) ratings run from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient). The government's target is for the majority of English homes to reach at least band C by 2035. This table ranks Surrey outcodes by the percentage of lodged EPC certificates that achieve C or better, using data from the EPC Open Data Communities register.

EPC data covers only properties that have had a certificate lodged — properties that have never been sold or let since the register was established may not have a certificate. Newer-build areas and areas with high rental turnover tend to have fuller coverage. An Area Report on a specific Surrey postcode includes the EPC band distribution for that postcode.

How we ranked this

The ranking uses two criteria:

  1. Percentage of certificates rated C or better (primary sort) — the proportion of lodged EPC certificates for the outcode that carry a current-energy-rating of A, B or C. Higher percentage is ranked first.
  2. Minimum 10 certificates lodged (filter) — outcodes with fewer than 10 lodged certificates are excluded to avoid statistical noise from very small samples.

EPC certificates are lodged when a property is sold, let or newly constructed. The register held by the government covers England and Wales and is updated continuously. Certificates are valid for 10 years; older properties may hold a certificate that does not reflect improvements made since it was issued.

Data source: EPC Open Data Communities API, Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. The API returns up to 5,000 records per outcode query; outcodes with more than 5,000 lodged certificates will be slightly under-counted in this aggregate.
